you have accomplished for over 20 years be part of the solution.
Your help as a volunteer on site, or through financial support has a
double reward. Those in need receive help. The personal
joy and satisfaction you will feel will be so rewarding and so

More About the
Street Ministry
Founded in 1990, the Benton Harbor Street Ministry was originally an outreach program to area street residents homeless persons, drug users, and the mentally ill. Over the past decade, the program has evolved into a neighborhood-based operation, focusing on empowering individuals of all ages through the promotion of personal responsibility and education.
Executive Director Yvonne Hester and her volunteers work with children, teenagers, adults, and seniors, providing an array of services including:
GED classesTeen M.O.P.S. (Teenage Mothers of Pre-Schoolers)
Food pantry
Tutoring assistance
Computer lab
Buddies for Life (mentoring program run in conjunction with students from Andrews University)
Digital Excellence (partnership with the CWCC to provide qualifying families with internet skills and access)
Pastors Prayer group
Womens Prayer group
The Berrien County
Association of Churches
(BCAC) works on behalf of
all the Christian churches
of Berrien County to promote
joint ministries which
individual congregations may
not be able to sustain. Not
desiring to blur
denominational distinctions,
BCAC sponsors cooperative
dialogue and understanding
in Southwest Michigan to
extend the ministry of local
churches by doing
cooperatively ministries
which are too large for a
congregation or individual
to undertake.
Vision Our vision for this year is to continue to meet the needs fo the students to empower them with Life Skills to ensure change. Meet with Andrews University Social Workers who can introduce programs that provide opportunities for academic achievement and growth for our youth and young adults. To increase the number of volunteers needed to ensure the success of our current and future programs.
BHSM would also like to put inplace a basic computer program class which would be individualized to move each student according to their basic knowledge of the computers.
BHSM realizes there are so many social ills that plague our community and that it is only through the work of Christ that these changes will be met. Please Keep BHSM in your daily prayers. Your financial assistance is needed to continue the work of BHSM. For more information on how you can donate either financially or physically please call 269-926-0030
How We Got started...
The Berrien County Association of Churches founded the Benton Harbor Street Ministry in the belief it offers a way of following Christ.
In anxious times the BHSM provides our community a place for mutual help, respite and the opportunity to give and receive unconditional love and respect. Located tow lots from a house burned in the June 2003, riots, within two months BHSM hosted a Day of Celebration attended by over two hundred people. It was a turnaround timte for young and old residents of the neighborhood...a time to reflect upon positive changes that can happen.
Whoever gives, whether it be money, time, prayer or talent, will receive in a measure pressed down and running over... Whoever receives will be be enabled to give in the same measure.
